Mortise & Tenon Joints

This is the type of joint used in all our teak furniture, it is the most durable and quiet joint. All of us have been in a wooden chair that creaks and wobbles. The chair joints have weakened with age and use and eventually need repair or replacement. One of the reasons is the type of joint used, whether it be screws, glue, or other types of joining two pieces of wood together.

A mortise and tenon joint consists, in simple terms, of a ‘tongue’, (the tenon) that slots into a hole (the mortise) cut in the mating piece of timber. The strength of the joint makes it ideal for use in fine furniture work. For a really strong joint the tenon must be a tight fit into the mortise, so care must be taken when cutting both parts of the joint. For maximum strength, the tenon width should never be more than one-third the width of the timber in which it is cut.

Wood Dowels

Genuine teak wood dowels are used to secure the joints in your teak furniture. Using teak dowels allows all your teak furniture to age the same. Using teak dowels also means quiet, strong, long-lasting furniture.

Your teak furniture is manufactured with precision cuts for tight fitting of the teak wood dowels. Then carefully inspected for a quality fit. We believe you deserve the best, so we demand the best from our experienced expert craftsmen.
